Jersey's Salvation Army is to start serving tea and coffee from countries that claim not to exploit their workers. The organisation is one of several in Jersey marking the 10th anniversary of the Fair Trade Foundation.
The foundation aims to help poor countries by making sure they are paid a reasonable price for their products.
Several events are being organised in the island to promote the principles of fair trade.
Jersey's Christian Aid group hopes that by October the whole island will be committed to supporting the concept.
The island's government is being asked to serve free trade tea and coffee at its meetings.
