The committee did not carry out site inspections in its last meeting |
There have been delays to decisions on major planning applications in Jersey because the committee in charge has resigned. All seven members of the Environment and Public Services Committee stood down on Tuesday because of criticism of their handling of the contract for the island's bus service.
The committee made no site visits at its last meeting and also had not made decisions on some major developments.
Because the committee's work is only being dealt with by staff acting in a caretaker capacity until a new committee is elected, decisions on contentious planning applications are not being made.
Hotel extension
The committee's former members stood down because they were facing a no-confidence motion in the States.
If they had lost, the committee would have been disbanded.
A full public inquiry is to be held into how Connex was awarded the contract more than a year ago to run the island's bus service, defeating the existing operator Jersey Bus.
After the contract was decided, there was a dispute over whether Connex and Public Services had been told about a pay rise agreed for workers at Jersey Bus just before it lost the contract.
The committee, which had been led by Deputy Maurice Dubras, did not make any site visits and put off a discussion about public reaction to planned homes at Bel Royal.
It also did not deal with a request from the States to reconsider permission already given for nine homes on Field 126 on La Grande Route de la Cote.
But plans for 40 self-catering apartments at la Chalet Hotel at Corbiere were approved.
Plans to extend the hotel on the headland had also already been approved.
