Passengers have been asked to be patient while the fog persists |
Thick fog has caused long delays at airports in the Channel Islands on Friday. At Jersey, no flights have landed because of the weather conditions.
The situation is just as bad in Guernsey, where air travellers face continued disruption as airport staff are unable to clear a backlog of flights which started on Thursday night.
Guernsey's Servisair duty officer Geoff de Carteret said he hoped conditions might improve as the day went on, but he was not too optimistic.
"The best advice I can give passengers is to give us a ring a couple of hours before their scheduled flight and we will update them on what is going on.
The fog is set to persist in the Channel Islands throughout Friday |
"Passengers can check in, but they must be patient. The weather forecast is not brilliant." About 1,800 people were booked onto flights out of Jersey on Friday.
So far only three planes have managed to take off and a few have turned back to the UK after trying to land.
Met Office spokesman Tony Pallot said he was hopeful some planes would be able to land in Jersey later on Friday, but the fog was not expected to completely clear until midnight.
Meanwhile, the fog has caused problems for six teams from the UK who are due to compete in the Jersey Under 12 Netball Challenge Tournament this weekend.
Teams from Hertfordshire, Essex and Southampton have been unable to fly to the island due to the conditions.
Organisers say Saturday's tournament could now start at 12 noon instead of 1000 GMT, depending on when the netballers from the UK arrive.
