Boat fans head for islands
Honda
Organisers hope the races will being the return of Class One powerboats
Two major boating events are to be staged in the Channel Islands this year.

The Swan Yachts regatta and Honda Formula Four powerboats are both going to be held in the waters of Guernsey and Jersey in April and May.

It is hoped the races will boost tourism.

Richard Ridout, who was involved in bringing Class One powerboats to Guernsey several years ago, said: "It will be good for the islands.

"The events will raise the islands' profile and bring people to the Channel Islands for short breaks."

He said that in the past people did not seem to want the powerboats in the islands, but local people were now much more enthusiastic.

He said: "It's fabulous they want events like this in the islands now and I hope the return of powerboats will pave the way for the return of Class One racing in the future."
