Residents asked to form group
People living in a Jersey housing estate are to be asked to form their own residents' association.

The Housing Department is hoping local people will take action as plans for a new community centre at Clos Gosset take shape.

The new centre has been partly funded by a charity and will provide facilities for people living in the area.

Plans for it will be on display at Checkers and at the Parish Hall.

Improve neighbourhood

The Housing Department hopes to use the development as an incentive for local people to improve their neighbourhood.

Estate Services Manager Carl Maverty says it will be a chance for them to cut down on the anti-social behaviour which has troubled the area in the past.

A public meeting is being held next Wednesday evening at Plat Douet School, when housing officers will explain how a residents' association would work.

An extra 1m will be needed to complete the centre and a parish assembly will decide whether to borrow that money from the States.

The Falle family has already given land worth 1m to get the project off the ground.

An anonymous donor has also given 500,000 to get building work under way.

If the States helps fund the project, it is hoped the centre will be finished by the end of next year.
