11 held after festive parties
Eleven people were arrested in St Helier this weekend when extra officers were sent out to police Christmas revellers.

Six were arrested for being drunk and disorderly, while there were four assaults, including one on a police officer, and one case of drunk and incapable.

Forty five officers were in town as part of Jersey Police's Operation Focus Peacekeeper initiative.

Inspector Sara Garwood praised the good behaviour of most people.

Drink-driving

She said: "It shows that we were out on the streets and people feel able to report incidents to us.

"But in general terms most of the public have been well behaved.

"They have had a few drinks, enjoyed themselves and had a good Christmas party and gone home.

"There are just one or two who have perhaps taken it a little bit too far."

Meanwhile, nine people have been arrested in the island's Christmas drink-drive campaign since it began two weeks ago.

About 5,830 drivers have been stopped in road checks around the island. Of those, 64 were breathalysed.

The campaign continues until 5 January.
