Proposals for Jersey to have a general election for all political representatives have been put forward. If the idea is agreed it could mean senators, constables and deputies are voted into office on a single day in two years' time.
Concerns have been growing over the low number of people turning out to vote in the island.
Some politicians manage to gain office on the strength of a few hundred votes.
Stretches credibility
It is feared it stretches the credibility of the States and the decisions members make.
A workshop organised by politicians has now drawn up plans for a single day when deputies, constables and senators are voted into office.
More work is likely to be done, but a general election could take place in the autumn of 2005.
Another idea is to have a standard period of office for representatives, rather than the varying terms there are now.
