Doodle in running for google fame

Nathan Spellman's design
Nathan is one of 48 regional winners

A picture by an 11-year-old Manx student could soon be seen by millions of internet users around the world.

Nathan Spellman from Ballerkermeen High School is a regional finalist in the Doodle 4 Google competition.

The aim was to draw a picture entitled My Community. The schoolboy's design includes Castle Rushen, a motorbike, and a Manx cat.

If it wins a public vote, which closes on Sunday, it will be displayed on Google's homepage.

The pictures on the search engine's homepage reflects special dates in the calendar such as St David's Day or major events like the Olympics.

Nathan Spellman was one of the year seven and eight students who drew designs for the competition.

It was one of six entered by the school and won the North West category in the 7-11 age group.

There are 48 regional winners and the national winner will appear on the Google homepage on 1 October, where it will be seen by at least 18 million people.
