Undercover police target drivers

Officers have already started patrols in the new fleet
Poor drivers in the Isle of Man are being targeted by officers in a fleet of new undercover police cars.

The force took delivery of the vehicles last month and have already been targeting anti-social motorists.

The cars are fitted with digital video recording equipment to catch motorists using mobile phones, poor driving and dangerous overtaking.

Insp Derek Flint said people now needed to ask themselves: "Is that a police car behind me?"

"Already, we have stopped a number of motorists for the old favourite of using their mobile phone on the move," he added.

"In addition, dangerous overtaking and poor driving has been recorded on the vehicle's imagery systems, and prosecutions will follow."

Motorists will be targeted in the next two months and Mr Flint said the operation's "absolute success" would be if no-one was caught driving badly.
