Aviation security team sworn in
Ronaldsway airport
Aviation security officers will have the same powers as the police
A new team of aviation security officers (ASOs) have been sworn-in at the Isle of Man's Ronaldsway Airport.

While on airport property, all ASOs have the same authority and powers as the police.

Three of the 13-strong team, some of whom have more than 30 years experience, will be on duty 24 hours a day to provide full security cover.

Their duties can include authorising visitors to the airport and managing disruptive passengers.

Airport Director designate Ann Reynolds said the officers would provide first class policing for the major point of entry to the island.

During this course, the ASOs also received training from the coroner's office, and are authorised to act on behalf of the coroner at the airport as and when required.
