Island 'bucks' drink drive trend
Police on the Isle of Man have praised the public's response to their anti drink drive campaign.

Only four drivers were charged with drink driving during the campaign's first week, the force said.

It has thanked Manx people for "bucking the UK trend which is upward" and urged islanders to continue their restraint during the Christmas period.

Drivers have been breathalysed during roadside checks while 173 defective vehicles have also been stopped.

Sgt Mark Britton said: "In this last week before Christmas when office parties are more frequent the temptation can be to drink and drive - it simply isn't worth it.

"Even the following day you can be over the limit."
