Drink drivers targeted by police
A campaign to tackle the "common practice" of drink driving on the Isle of Man was being launched on Monday.

Sgt John Kinrade said drinking under the influence of alcohol was still a problem on the island.

Despite hundreds of people being prosecuted each year, many drivers continued to ignore the law.

Motorists are being warned they risk losing their jobs, their freedom and the lives of others by driving with excess alcohol.

Sgt Kinrade said: "Drink driving is still a common practice throughout the island.

"Each year several hundred offenders are prosecuted for drink driving offences, they have been fined, disqualified from driving and in some cases given periods of imprisonment.

"These punishments have been well publicised, yet drivers are still prepared to take the risk.

"Don't drink and drive, it's you and others who will face the consequences."
