The Chief Pleas will become an elected body in December |
Sark's first general election will attract "significant" outside interest, according to a political analyst. Adrian Lee, from the University of Plymouth, said this was because the island was moving away from an "essentially feudal" structure. He also said the voting process would be scrutinised to ensure it was fair. Seven candidates have so far put their names into the ring for the 10 December elections since nominations opened on Friday. Mr Lee said: "Moving away from a previously essentially feudal structure to a fully democratically elected Chief Pleas, there's bound to be a great deal of interest. "In particular I suspect that [any potential] questions about undue influence, lack of fairness or lack of transparency, will get a very significant public airing."
