Landsbanki group to meet minister

More than 2,000 people had money saved in Landsbanki Guernsey

Guernsey's Chief Minister has offered to meet a pressure group formed by depositors who have money tied up in the failed Landsbanki Guernsey bank.

The Depositors' Action Group was set up after the bank went into administration in October following problems with the Icelandic economy.

It has sent a number of letters to the Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Trott, asking for a meeting.

He has now agreed to see them on 24 November.

Compensation payment

Deputy Trott, who has previously defended Guernsey's handling of the situation, has agreed to meet depositors in the UK.

More than 2,000 people had �117.3m saved in Landsbanki Guernsey when the bank was put into administration in October.

Savers have said not enough information is being released about when they can expect their money back.

They have been told they will get an interim payment back of 30p for every pound invested, but say that is not enough.

Guernsey currently has no depositor protection scheme, though the introduction of one is being considered by the States.
