Sex trafficking is on the agenda
sex trafficking
Sexual exploitation is one of the main factors behind trafficking.
Guernsey is to host a conference on sex trafficking to raise awareness of the global issue.

It is being held by UK charity Churches Alert to Sex Trafficking Across Europe (CHASTE), which works with women trying to escape from trafficking.

The United Nations estimates about 900,000 people are moved across Europe, Africa and Asia every year by force or deception for exploitation.

The meeting will be held in St Peter Port at the end of this month.

Sexual exploitation

The Chair of the new multi-agency government funded UK Human Trafficking Centre Research Forum will give a talk at Les Cotils Christian Centre on 30 August.

Women are involved in 77% of trafficking cases worldwide, with sexual exploitation a factor in 87%. Forced labour is also a motive.

CHASTE was set up five years ago to support anyone who has been exploited in this way and tries to stop any kind of trafficking for sexual exploitation.
