The money will go to support the future development of Channel Island stars of track and field.

And it will help sportsmen and women from Guernsey and Jersey compete at national level.

Sportingbet CI Athletics Club will get 75,000 towards travel costs, 15,000 on kit, while 10,000 will go to help those who might have been prevented from competing for financial reasons.

The 120 strong membership includes local runners Dale Garland and Lee Merrien, and Jersey javelin thrower Lauren Therin.

Sportingbet's chief exec Andrew McIver is keen to help these youngsters get to the British Athletics League championships and compete against UK athletes.

He said: "The aim of our sponsorship is simply to help them achieve that goal".
