Event sees alcohol-free streets
Parts of Guernsey are set to be designated alcohol-free zones on Liberation Day.

It will be illegal to drink between 1100 BST and 2300 BST on 9 May in areas such as Crown Pier, North Beach and St Julian's Esplanade.

Minister Geoff Mahy said the aim was to stop the enjoyment of the majority being ruined by the determination of a minority to get drunk.

The day marks Guernsey's liberation from Nazi occupation in World War II.

Although the police will have the powers of entry, inspection, search, seizure, detention and arrest, their stated intention is to use their powers of persuasion to enforce the new laws.
