The airline Flybe is insisting there is no question of pulling out of Guernsey even though its new fleet of aircraft cannot use the runway when its wet. Flybe has recently invested millions on a fleet of Embraer aircraft to replace the BA146 on its regional routes.
The runway is long enough to take the aircraft but it needs better drainage to cope with landing in wet weather.
The company's managing director Ian Taylor says it is too soon to discuss where the Embraer will be used.
Mr Taylor said: "I think it's premature to raise concerns about what aircraft types will be operating to Guernsey.
"This is a decision that will not have to be made for some two years."
