A Guernsey Home Department member is backing calls for more inter-island co-operation on competition laws. Deputy Graham Guille supports Jersey Senator Philip Ozouf, who believes a joint approach could benefit both the public and the islands' governments.
The issue has been raised following the purchase of the Morrisons supermarkets in both islands by CI Traders.
The takeover has led to concerns about the company's market dominance in the retail sector.
Closer involvement
CI Traders, which also owns Jersey's Marks & Spencer, plus Le Riche and Checkers stores, bought the Safeways/Morrisons stores in Jersey and Guernsey for 51m.
Mr Ozouf is concerned about the takeover as it occurred hours before a new competition law was brought in.
The sale has been referred to the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA), but Guernsey has no equivalent.
Deputy Guille said he would welcome closer joint government involvement on issues such as monopoly control.
