There has been criticism of an overspend at Beau Sejour |
A Guernsey politician is urging the States to improve its project management and capital spending. Charles Parkinson, the deputy minister for Treasury and Resources, says there are some stiff tests ahead for the island's government.
He believes more care needs to be taken with future projects, including the new schools at Les Nicolles.
An overspend on the Beau Sejour project prompted calls for an investigation into how contracts are handled.
Mr Parkinson said: "We're not at the end of the development pipeline yet.
"We have the new schools at Les Nicholles which are going to cost 50m and The Board of Health wants to erect a new clinical ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital which will cost 25m.
"These are sort of pencilled in, although decisions on some of the later projects haven't yet been taken. But there's ample scope for those projects to go wrong if we don't get a grip on this."
