Insufficient care claims denied
Elderly care
The department says there is no reduction in health care
Claims that Guernsey's care for the elderly mentally infirm is insufficient have been rejected by the States.

A reduced number of beds at the Duchess of Kent House has led to growing concerns from islanders over the state of elderly dementia care.

The Health and Social Services Department says it is providing as much assistance as possible to keep patients at home with their families.

It claims the unit is now better suited to deal with patients' needs.

It also promises a new project at Les Cotils will soon provide a day centre for dementia patients.

The department also claims it is pressing for additional financial assistance to subsidise the use of private care.
