Deputy says debates are 'rushed'
A Guernsey deputy says debates on crucial issues are being rushed.

Since 2004's review of the island's government, States meetings have taken only one day instead of lasting up to a possible three days.

Deputy John Gollop says although the reforms were designed to speed up decision making, for him it has now gone too far in the other direction.

The States said its restructuring was designed to streamline how the island was governed.

However, Deputy Gollop said: "I think maybe the problem is that we are actually trying to deal with too many items on the billet in one day.

"I haven't liked the way the new States seem to see debating as an assault course it must get through as quickly as possible."
