Trial for Alderney's waste plan
Alderney's waste export system could be in operation within two months of a decision to go ahead.

The island is planning to trial a system under which it exports the bulk of its waste to Guernsey.

Discussions on the plan were going on before the decision was taken to put Guernsey's Longue Hougue waste to energy Plant on hold.

But States Engineer Steve Price said if the island would accept Alderney's waste, the scheme would be unaffected.

But he said the final decision to go ahead had not yet been taken and that until it was the necessary equipment could not be ordered.

The suppliers have told Alderney they can supply it within six weeks but Mr Price says it would take two months before the scheme could start.

Even then it will be dependent on shipping space being available on a regular basis.
