Alderney previously shelved the idea because of expense |
Guernsey's Mont Cuet landfill site will soon be receiving shipments of rubbish from Alderney. The Public Services Department agrees Alderney has no alternative but to export its waste because of unavoidable delays in improving disposal methods.
Concerns over open burning at the Impot on Alderney have also contributed to the decision.
A trial will take place within the next few months and if it is a success the scheme could become permanent.
The chairman of the Alderney States' General Services Committee, Barry Pengilley, said islanders would be encouraged to separate and recycle as much rubbish as possible in order to reduce the amount which needed exporting.
