Police want more domestic violence victims to come forward

The figures have been revealed in the latest policing plan, which says the force will support victims while dealing with complaints effectively.

However, despite the figures, officers are concerned that many crimes are still going unreported.

Victims are being urged to speak up and told that the force is committed to continuing support for those affected.

Domestic violence officer Sergeant Geoff Chapman said: "There's a statistic that a woman is assaulted 35 times before she brings it forward to the police.

"So I'd like to see more reports coming in because I want to know that victims are coming forward."

The Guernsey Domestic Violence Forum said: "All such abuse is a serious crime, which is unacceptable to society, and all individuals have the right to live their lives free of abuse and the threat of violence."
