Police promise more beat officers
Guernsey police say they will put more bobbies on the beat in an attempt to make the island a safer place to live.

A new five-year policing plan reveals that more than a quarter of islanders now live in fear of crime.

That is despite a drop in the number of reported crimes and a 6% rise in detection rates.

New initiatives include increasing foot patrols and working in partnership with local communities as well as taking on 20 more officers.

The police will also target public order offences, crack down on drug crime and will rely on more special constables and neighbourhood watch schemes to enforce the law.

Drink drivers and speeders will also be a target in a move to make the island's roads safer.
