 Guernsey's family planning service has holiday packs with advice |
The increase of sexually transmitted infections in Guernsey could be blamed on islanders picking them up when they are away on holiday. The most recent new cases of HIV were acquired abroad, with one resulting from sexual tourism.
Dr Nick King, a leading local genitary-urinary physician, says many people who are on holiday are having too much sun, wine and unprotected sex.
He says some travel abroad purely to have sex.
Speaking to BBC Radio Guernsey, Dr King said some people are unaware of how easily infections such as HIV can be picked up. Guernsey's Family Planning Service says advice and help is readily available for people going on holiday.
Spokeswoman Sue Le Page said: "At the clinic, we actually do a holiday pack which contains guidelines for travellers.
"There's also a sexual health passport which has useful names and numbers in different countries across the world where they can obtain medical help."
