Alison Merrien fought off tough competition to lay claim to the coveted Wilkinson Sword at Guernsey's Sporting Achievement Awards. The island's top lady bowler beat the cream of the island's top athletes to win the title which celebrates an outstanding individual achievement.
Her performance in the Champion of Champions competition in Australia last year, where she missed out on a world title by a narrow margin, secured her the title.
She received her award at a glittering ceremony - which had been revamped and modernised for 2004 - at a packed Beau Sejour Theatre on Monday night.
Newly-crowned Sports Personality of the Year, Ann Bowditch, added another title to her collection with the Guernsey Brewery Salver for the top achievement by a woman.

The male equivalent went to the golden boy of the Island Games, Dale Garland. Island Games organiser Roy Martel was rewarded with the Les Collins Memorial Trophy, while the gold medal-winning women's basketball team took the Sports Council Trophy.
Disabled athletes Andrew Harrison and David Parsons took the Liam McKenna and Cate Jackson trophies as the outstanding athletes of the year, while hurdling sensation Kylie Robilliard lifted the Lambourne Shield for her age group.
Coach Anne Stewart was recognised by the Recreation Committee for her 15 years of dedication to badminton, while the Guernsey Under 16s football team lifted the Beau Sejour Trophy.
National Mountain Bike champion Jimmy Carling took the Andrew Croft Memorial Trophy for effort, while 800 metres runner Tom Druce was judged to have made the most progress over the season, earning him the Sir John Loveridge Trophy.
