Historic pub receives revamp

Guernsey's historic Prince of Wales Pub in St Peter Port is to return to its roots.

It is being revamped to appeal to the inhabitants of Court Row, as well as the older generation who want a comfortable place to have a drink.

As well as traditional features, a new attraction will be a massive wine rack with special lockers where customers can store their own bottles.

The new-look pub will re-open in May.

Mugger sought after attack on man

Witnesses are being sought to a mugging which took place in the Charotterie in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A man, who was walking alone, was forced to the ground, and his mobile phone and an amount of cash were stolen in the attack which occurred outside Channel Tyres at about 0100 GMT.

The male mugger is thought to be about 30 years old and is described as being of thin build, about 5 ft 9 in tall, wearing blue or black trousers and a blue shirt.

He was accompanied by a woman in her mid to late 20s, who was of slim build and wearing a three-quarter length white coat and white boots, reaching just below her knees. She was thought to be about 5ft tall.

New contraflow could benefit cyclists

Cyclists in Guernsey could benefit from shorter and safer journeys if a new contraflow trail at Rue a Ronces proves successful.

The road - close to Galaad Church - is one way, but the new contraflow will allow cyclists to travel in a segregated lane against the flow of traffic.

The measures are being put in place following recommendations from the pedestrian safety group STEPS.

They are aimed at encouraging more people to take the healthier option of cycling on the island.

Sailing event returns after long break

Yacht racing enthusiasts in the Bailiwick have a treat in store over the Spring Bank Holiday.

After a break of nearly 10 years, Swan Yachts are returning for a rendezvous of racing and socialising.

The event will be hosted by the combined Guernsey Yacht Clubs.

Mail problems cause concern

Incorrectly delivered mail is causing concern for Guernsey's Consumer Group.

The group has recently tracked the experience of one local company and discovered mail sent to the wrong address in spite of postcodes being correct.

Stephen John, chairman of the States' Postal Sub-Committee, said he believed Guernsey Post was not doing enough to identify and deal with the problem.

Phone companies make applications

There are plans for a new mobile phone mast in the Vale.

Wave Telecom is applying for IDC permission to site a 17 metre mast in Jamblin Quarry.

It is the second application for a mobile mast in the Vale in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, NTL is applying for permission to place four dish antennas in the Route de L'Eglise in the Castel.
