Ferry debate on agenda
Sark
The only link from Sark to Guernsey is by sea
Sark's government is due to debate plans for a new ferry for the island on Wednesday.

The Chief Pleas will also discuss what to do with Sark's existing boys' school building which will be left empty once the island's new school is completed.

Representatives will study proposals to give a Turkish shipyard the job of building Sark's new ferry.

The island's shipping committee has visited the yard near Istanbul and says it offers the best facilities.

If the Turkish yard is given the go-ahead it is believed they will complete and deliver the new boat to Sark in a year's time.

With no airport on Sark, the only link to and from Guernsey is by sea and the ferry carries about 55,000 passengers a year.

And Sark's Trustees of Island Property say the boys' school should be converted into a Court House.

They suggest the old building could be used for the assembly of the island's Chief Pleas.
