Prisoners to build Liberation 'house'
Liberation Day parade
Islanders will commemorate 800 years of independence in 2004
Young offenders at Guernsey Prison are helping to build the backdrop for next year's Liberation Day celebrations.

With financial aid from local businesses, a mock Tudor house is being constructed.

It will form a key part of the 2004 Liberation Day celebrations and will also be used to help commemorate 800 years of independence.

It is hoped a medieval theme will run throughout a number of summer events in the island.

Entertainers will also make use of the mock house at the Floral Guernsey Show and the Town Carnival.

The house is being built by the States Prison Workshop, with all the materials being provided free of charge by Norman Piette.

The Liberation Celebrations committee hopes the medieval theme will provide a broad base of entertainers to choose from.

Islanders are being warned to expect anything from singing plague victims to a George and The Dragon Puppet Theatre.
