There have been violent scenes in Kiev, as Ukraine's parliament ratified an extension of the lease of Russia's Black Sea naval base in Crimea.
The debate was marred by scenes of chaos in the chamber, with the speaker huddling under an umbrella as opposition MPs pelted his podium with eggs.
While police divided thousands of demonstrators outside the building, scuffles broke out inside and smoke bombs were set off.
Last week the Ukrainian and Russian presidents agreed to extend the controversial lease. Neither were present during Tuesday's melee.
The agreement will keep Russia's black sea fleet in Ukraine for another three decades.
The deal also gives Ukraine a 30% discount on Russian gas imports.
Meanwhile, riot police blocked opposition faced down crowds of opposition supporters outside the parliament building.
