Siim Kallas: 'There cannot be compromise on safety'

There will be no compromise on passenger safety, EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas has told a news briefing.

His comments come as the body that represents the world's airlines, IATA, has criticised Europe's governments for the way they closed air space because of volcanic ash erupting from Iceland.

Millions of passengers have been affected by the suspension of air travel across much of Europe, which is now into its fifth day.
