Volcano erupts near Eyjafjallajokull in south Iceland

An Icelandic volcano, dormant for 200 years, has erupted, ripping a 1km-long fissure in a field of ice.

The eruption near Eyjafjallajokull glacier sent lava one hundred metres high.
