Brown: Blair 'excellent' candidate for EU post

Gordon Brown has reiterated his backing for Tony Blair as president of the EU Council.

Speaking at a news conference in Brussels after a meeting of European member states, Mr Brown said there had been no formal talks yet about the key position.

However he said Mr Blair would make an ideal candidate.
