As the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall approaches, British government papers published today have indicated just how opposed Margaret Thatcher was to German reunification.

But her views were not shared by her foreign office ministers or diplomats. Brian Hanrahan, who witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall at first hand, spoke to former Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd.
