Turkey and Armenia agree key talks

Turkey and Armenia have agreed to begin six weeks of consultations aimed at re-establishing diplomatic ties after almost 100 years of hostility.

In a joint statement the two countries said their parliaments would then be asked to ratify the protocols.

The two countries' dispute centres on the fate of Armenians under Turkish Ottoman rule nearly a century ago.
