Hungary marks 1989 freedom event

Two decades ago, groups in Hungary, opposed to the Soviet regime in Eastern Europe, organised a picnic on the border between the communist country and its capitalist neighbour Austria.

What became known as the Pan-European Picnic, allowed hundreds of East Germans to leave communist Eastern Europe.

Nick Thorpe reports from Budapest.
