The European Union has said it is ready to send monitors to help implement the ceasefire in Georgia, but that a corresponding UN resolution is needed first.
Speaking after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner called for a political solution to the conflict.
