Mr Chiuariu controversially criticised anti-corruption prosecutors |
Romania's Justice Minister Tudor Chiuariu, who is under investigation for alleged corruption, has tendered his resignation. "I don't want personal or political disputes to affect the activity and credibility of state institutions," he said on Sunday.
Prosecutors accuse Mr Chiuariu of having abused his position in a sale of state land. He denies any wrongdoing.
The EU has urged member state Romania to do more to combat corruption.
On Friday the Romanian President, Traian Basescu, called on Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu to dismiss Mr Chiuariu, who became justice minister in April.
