Ukraine deports Turkish fishermen

Ukraine has deported forty-five Turkish fishermen detained earlier in the week on suspicion of fishing illegally in the Black Sea.

The Ukrainian deputy foreign minister Oleksandr Maidannyk said two other men were being held for further questioning.

He said the body of a fisherman shot by coastguards on Wednesday was also being returned to Turkey.

The incident, during which coastguards opened fire on several Turkish fishing boats accused of entering Ukrainian territorial waters, prompted Ukraine to call for urgent talks with Turkey on managing the resources of the Black Sea. Correspondents say dwindling fish stocks in the Black Sea means fishermen are going further afield in search of a good catch.
