Silvio Berlusconi's illness forced his fraud trial to be delayed

Doctors identified an irregular heartbeat but said there was no reason for concern.

They gave the former prime minister, 70, a clean bill of health after three days of medical tests.

Mr Berlusconi insists he will address a rally on Saturday, but admitted he may have to take things more easily.

"Perhaps I'll have to limit my commitments because I have been overdoing it too much," he said after leaving hospital and arriving at his mother's house.

"When I do these Forza Italia [political party] meetings, there isn't only the speech, which often lasts one hour or more. They also want me to go to all the tables and shake hands, have pictures taken and write dedications," he said.

"So I go home tired and stressed at 0300-0400 in the morning and then I get up at 0730."

Mr Berlusconi, Italy's richest man, is currently on trial, accused of corporate fraud and money-laundering.

Proceedings were suspended on Monday because of his ill health, but are expected to resume on Friday.
