The end came after Turkish security forces seized the aircraft and arrested the hijacker. The semi-official Anatolia news agency says a group of passengers grabbed the man while a special forces team were entering the plane. It was diverted to Diyarbakir in south-eastern Turkey. From there he wanted to fly on to Iran. About 20 passengers were released shortly after landing. The hijacker claimed he was carrying a bomb. The man is reported to be a Turkish Cypriot. He is thought to have been acting on his own.
