The colleagues of prominent Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was found shot dead in an elevator at her Moscow home, have paid tribute to her. VITALY YAROSHEVSKY, DEPUTY EDITOR, NOVAYA GAZETA
She was at the cutting edge. There were attempts to poison her. This is also a story which everyone is aware of.
She went through two wars. She was at [siege at Russian theatre] Dubrovka . You may remember she went there to meet the terrorists. She was in Beslan.
She worked not just in trouble spots, she worked in places where the value of a human life did not really amount to anything at all.
ALEKSEY VENEDIKTOV, CHIEF EDITOR, EKHO MOSKVY
This appears to be the fourth high-profile killing of a journalist in the history of post-Soviet Russia.
Unfortunately, not a single crime solved was followed by a trial and a conviction. Officially, the crimes remain unsolved. And this crime is certainly linked with Anna Politkovskaya's professional activities.
OLEG PANFILOV, DIRECTOR, MOSCOW CENTRE FOR JOURNALISM IN EXTREME SITUATIONS

Whenever the question arose whether there is honest journalism in Russia, almost every time the first name that came to mind was Politkovskaya.
