Gen Ante Gotovina receives a Croatian state pension |
The UN chief war crimes prosecutor has set back Croatia's bid to start EU entry talks, demanding that Zagreb do more to catch a top war crimes suspect. Carla del Ponte said fugitive General Ante Gotovina was "within reach of the Croatian authorities".
The EU postponed entry talks with Croatia in March, citing Zagreb's failure to arrest Mr Gotovina.
He faces charges of killing 150 Serbs and expelling 150,000 others from the Krajina region of Croatia in 1995.
Ms Del Ponte was speaking after a meeting with the EU body monitoring Croatia's compliance with the Hague war crimes tribunal.
Zagreb says Gen Gotovina is no longer in Croatia.
