A television programme in Sweden says the furniture firm IKEA is continuing to exploit child labour.

The documentary reports that children working in factories in the Philippines and Vietnam are under the minimum age set in international agreements.

A spokesperson for IKEA Marianne Barner defended the company, saying the contract with its supplier in the Philippines had been suspended, when under-age children were found to be making wicker baskets.

She emphasised that IKEA was committed to preventing under-age child labour, but said the problem was complicated, since children were employed by local suppliers, not directly by IKEA.
