Paksas has vowed to run again for the presidency |
Lithuania's impeached president, Rolandas Paksas, has been taken to hospital for high blood pressure, the presidential office has confirmed. The condition of Mr Paksas, who is 47 and a keen sportsman, is "not very serious", presidential adviser Antanas Martusevicius told BBC News Online.
Unconfirmed media reports suggest he became unwell at a farewell banquet hours after his sacking on Tuesday.
MPs impeached him for violating the constitution - a charge he denies.
Mr Paksas was accused of leaking classified material and giving citizenship to a Russian businessman in return for financial support.
He described the vote, which came after he had been in office for just over a year, as a "vendetta" to punish his "efforts to fight corruption" and is expected to stand for re-election.
