Irish PM's daughter launches book

Cecilia Ahern is making more money than her father
Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern has his hands full as his country holds the reins of the European Union presidency.

But another member of his family is achieving success in her own right - as a novelist.

Mr Ahern's 22-year-old daughter, Cecilia, has just published her first book, with a lucrative contract to go with it.

Her book, PS I Love You, is in the shops, and Hollywood has shown an interest in the film rights.

For a debut novelist, Cecilia Ahern is doing very nicely. She already has a lucrative two-book contract.

Telling the story of a girl called Holly, PS I Love You is part of a genre sometimes referred to as "chick-lit". It is the sort of breezy, modern tale of life and relationships primarily aimed at women and which is expected to sell lots of copies.

Celebrity wedding

In Ireland, there's added interest because of the author's father.

Mr Ahern's other daughter Georgina has also made headlines, having married Nicky Byrne of the pop band Westlife.

While Mr Ahern meets European leaders trying to gain agreement on a European constitution, Cecilia, a former journalism student, is the subject of her own newspaper profiles.

She rejects the idea that her success to date is down to having a famous father. This week she told the Irish Times newspaper that she is proud of her dad, but that it's an insult to the publishing world to think they'd buy something simply based on that.

And she laughed at the thought that she and her sister are wealthier than her father.

"Poor Dad," she said. "And he works harder than the two of us put together."
