A Spanish judge has released on bail a former Argentine navy captain, Adolfo Scilingo, who has admitted throwing prisoners to their deaths from aircraft nearly twenty years ago, while Argentina was under military rule.

Mr Scilingo, who has been in jail since October charged with genocide and terrorism, flew to Spain to give evidence about the flights.

The judge, Baltazar Garzon, who is investigating the disappearance of hundreds of Spaniards during the so-called Argentine dirty war, has ordered Mr Scilingo to stay in Spain and report to court every week.
