A former Bosnian Serb guard has been sentenced to eight years in prison for murdering and torturing prisoners at a notorious detention camp during the Bosnian war. Predrag Banovic was convicted of crimes against humanity at The Hague's international war crimes tribunal.
He admitted guilt in a plea bargain with prosecutors, who dropped four other charges in exchange.
Banovic committed the crimes while working as a guard at the Keraterm camp in north-western Bosnia in 1992.
He was arrested in November 2001 in Belgrade along with his twin brother Nenad, who was released by judges last month for lack of evidence.
In May 2002, while awaiting trial at a high-security UN detention unit, he married.
Fellow inmate Slobodan Milosevic, the former Yugoslav president whose own war crimes trial is still taking place, served as his best man.
